George R. R. Martin reveals new Game of Thrones cover

Published on May 11, 2014 by in Book News

Here’s something that Game of Thrones fans can rejoice over – George R. R. Martin, the series’ 65-year-old creator, has released the final cover art for the latest book in the series.

The book, called The World of Ice & Fire, was written with Elio M García Jr. and Linda Antonsson, who run the well-known fan site Wesateros.org. According to Martin, it’s a “gorgeous book, a big coffee table volume with lots and lots of stunning artwork, and tons of fake history.”

The book is expected to be around 330 pages long and is set in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, covering “lots of new information about the ancient history of the world, about the various regions, about the  Targaryens and the Lannisters, and even about the strange, far-off places of Essos, from the Free Cities to Asshai and the Summer Isles,” according to García.

Unfortunately for Game of Thrones fans, Martin has the Tolkienesque habit of getting sidetracked by side-projects and spin-offs, and many are unhappy that this isn’t news about The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the series which is yet to be released.
